Class action suit against the RIAA

From Slashdot, there is this story of a class action suit against the RIAA. It’s an interesting sounding case:

Her amended complaint is impressive. She’s citing negligence, fraud, negligent misrepresentation, federal and state RICO, abuse of process, malicious prosecution, intentional infliction of emotional distress, violation of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, trespass, invasion of privacy, libel and slander, deceptive business practices, misuse of copyright law, and civil conspiracy.

The RIAA has been pretty abusive recently. The chickens may now be coming home to roost. To see RICO in this is pretty impresive, if they can make the case.

DRM Free Music Trial

Universal Music Group has announced that they will try selling online music without DRM. The trial will run from August to January and will include Google, Amazon, and  Wal-Mart.

Of course money talks. If you want to this to be a permanent change, go to one the participating sites and drop some coin on some DRM-free music.
