I fought the Blog

In tribute to the APs recent DCMA takedown fight with a blogger, here is a little tune:

Ah pushin news in the … hot sun

I Fought the Blog and the … Blog won

I Fought the Blog and the … Blog won

I needed traffic, ’cause I … had none

I Fought the Blog and the … Blog won

I Fought the Blog and the … Blog won

I fail to see how the AP gets any benefit out of this, much less benefit to be worth the fury that is going to rain down on them. Nate Anderson nails this right on the head:

In retrospect, it’s hard to know just what the AP was thinking here. The merits of the case hardly come into the matter; like a slurry of chum to hungry sharks, bloggers get a little crazed by anything involving 1) the DMCA, 2) the chance to stomp on the grave of mainstream media, and 3) invitations to be outraged over fair use limitations.

Meanwhile Michael Silence observes:

And in other news, when the AP is done wasting time with the blogophere, it will draw up rules on how to herd cats.
