So Dave Kearns has straightened me out. Not only is LDAP COBOL, but so is SNMP. Presumably COBOL is also COBOL (tautologically speaking of course).
I see the light! COBOL is everywhere! It’s all around us. For instance:
- The Bureau of India Affairs (BIA) is the COBOL of federal agencies
- Casablanca is the COBOL of American cinema
- Eggs Benedict is the COBOL of break foods
- The Canterbury Tales are the COBOL of literature written in Middle English
- Dave Kearns is … a keen and respected observer of the IT industry
